26 February to 30 April - Rail replacement service from Hofstetten to Mariazell

In order to make the Mariazellerbahn (Mariazell Railway) fit for the future in the interests of our passengers and the region, extensive modernisation measures are planned for spring 2024. The work will focus on safety and comfort for passengers.

When will construction take place and what measures will be implemented?

A tight schedule in the interests of all involved. The conversion work will take place from 26 February to 30 April 2024. The work will focus on safety and comfort for passengers. During this period, a rail replacement service with buses will be set up between Hofstetten and Mariazell.

  • Removal of muddy spots along the entire stretch of road
  • Sectional tamping work to maintain the track position
  • Replacement of the rails in the area of the Steinklamm stop
  • Soil exploration work between Hofstetten and Kirchberg
  • Green pruning work to keep the route clear in the Schwarzenbach area
  • Replacement of the overhead line masts between Frankenfels and Boding
  • Renovation of walls and protective structures
  • Construction of a replacement platform in Mariazell for the planned station renovation in 2024

The planned work will mainly take place during the day. However, despite the greatest possible consideration, there may be an increased level of noise in the track area. We therefore ask for your understanding in advance for any disruption that may occur.

Tickets valid on Mariazellerbahn (Mariazell railway) lines are also valid on rail replacement services and can also be purchased directly on the bus from the conductor. Bicycle transport and group tours: Please book in advance at the information centre.
